The Lancia Rally 037: A Rear-Wheel-Drive Legend
In the early 1980s, Group B rallying pushed performance and engineering to the extreme. While Audi embraced all-wheel drive, Lancia took a different approach with a lightweight chassis, rear-wheel drive, and a supercharged mid-engine layout.
Against the odds, the Lancia Rally 037 won the 1983 World Rally Championship manufacturers' title. It was also the first Group B car to win a WRC event and the last rear-wheel-drive car to win the championship.
Only 207 road-legal Stradale versions were produced, making the 037 one of the rarest and most memorable homologation specials in automotive history.
