2. Background Story: The CH-53E Super Stallion is a heavy-lift helicopter operated by the United States military. Developed as the S-80, it evolved from the CH-53 Sea Stallion primarily through the addition of a third engine, the inclusion of a seventh blade on the main rotor, and a 20° canting of the tail rotor.
It was manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft for the United States Marine Corps.
The less common MH-53E Sea Dragon variant fulfills the United States Navy's requirements for long-range minesweeping and airborne mine countermeasures missions, while also performing heavy-lift duties for the Navy. The CH-53K King Stallion—featuring new engines, new composite rotor blades, and a wider cabin—is slated to replace the CH-53E.
