The LAV-25 is a wheeled infantry fighting vehicle primarily in service with the United States Marine Corps, having officially entered service in 1983. The vehicle features an 8×8 wheeled chassis with a combat weight of approximately 12.8 tons. Its primary armament consists of a single 25mm M242 "Bushmaster" chain gun. Possessing amphibious capabilities, the vehicle can reach a top road speed of 100 km/h and can be airlifted by transport aircraft such as the C-130. The vehicle originated from the Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) program initiated by the U.S. military in the early 1980s to equip its Rapid Reaction Forces; it was primarily procured and fielded by the U.S. Marine Corps. Since entering service, the LAV-25 has participated in numerous military operations, including the 1989 U.S. invasion of Panama, the 1991 Gulf War, and conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
